SJASD Senior Concert Choir

About the Choir

The SJASD Senior Concert Choir is one of St. James-Assiniboia School Division's three divisional choirs. Its members consist of singers in Grades 9-12.   This choir has developed a reputation of being one of Manitoba's premier youth choirs.

Membership in this choir gives singers the opportunity to develop their potential for musical excellence and to meet and work with other talented musicians in the school division.  Singers in this group have enjoyed rehearsing and performing a wide variety of beautiful music.  In addition to having fun they also work very hard on challenging repertoire that represents a variety of genres.

The SJASD Senior Concert Choir is recognized across the country and has performed with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, CBC Radio, the Government of Manitoba, Winnipeg Singers, Prairie Voices and at many other events and festivals. The choir also was awarded a “Triple Gold” standing at the National Music Festival, MusicFest Canada in Vancouver. In March 2015 the choir participated in the Heritage Festival in New York City.  The choir was awarded a gold medal standing, an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall, an Adjudicator's Award trophy for a mark over 95%, and an Outstanding Choir trophy for tying as the top choir at the festival. At the 2017 Winnipeg Music Festival, the Senior Concert Choir was presented with a number of awards including the Winnipeg Mennonite Children's Choir Alumni Golden Era Bursary, the Walter Klymkiw Trophy and Walter Klymkiw Memorial Bursary, the Caledonia Singers Peter Buchan Memorial Bursary, the Saults and Pollard Limited Shield, and the Lieutenant Governor's Trophy for the top performance at the 2017 Winnipeg Music Festival!  At the National Choral Competition, the Senior Choir placed 2nd in CLASS 102 - GEORGE S. MATHIESON.

The Choir maintains approximately 65 members. The choral season runs from September to May.
